Where Can I Get The Most Bang for My Buck in My Business?

This week's question is asked by someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

This Week's Question: I have a limited budget, and a seemingly UN-limited list of things that need to be tended to in my business. How do I prioritize my spending to make my money go furthest? How do I get the most BANG for my buck?

Laura's Answer:

Thanks for that question! I hear this A LOT.

There are a few things that are really core to business success that I would advise any and every business to invest in first. I'll get into those in a minute.

Prioritizing is a skill you need to get good at. No matter how much money you have, you always have a "limited" budget. And if you're using your imagination and pushing yourself forward, you'll also always have more dreams than you do funds.

So let's be clear...this is not an issue that goes away once you've "made it" (whatever that really means). But that's not the thing that's really bothering you.

Let's address what - judging by your language - your REAL issue is...

...the sense of lack. I don't know your specific situation, but I hear in your words that you feel like this is a one-time chance. This is a dangerous place to make decisions from. Lack and scarcity never make a good platform for decisions.

Before you make any choices, get with a neutral outside party to help you get clear on what fears and scarcity issues are coming up for you. Use the skills you have (or get skills if you don't have any) to make sure that you're shifting to a place of abundance before making choices.

I often work with my clients to form a personalized priority list that they keep handy for reference whenever funds do come in.

It's easy to get overwhelmed when it comes to money (it IS a magnifier, after all) so always use checkins with a support team, refer to your plan that you made when you weren't experience intense feelings and sensations, and always pause to hear your intuition about expenditures first.

The tried and true places to invest money to really support your business are

1) personal development to be clear on who you truly are and what's essential to you to bring to the world and

2) a solid brand that accurately communicates what you have to offer people. (And by brand I do NOT mean a logo and some business cards...I mean an actual strategy that results in select visual pieces) Neither of these things are accomplished alone.

If you want to hear more about this or are ready to start on your personal development, send me email about working together privately.

I also invite you to join me in my new 4-week group coaching class starting May 28 where we will focus on success, growth, and mindful money.
